Antivirus

 ESET NOD32 is ICT`s supported antivirus program. 

 Please note that when you install this program, your PC/Laptop must be connected to the University network in order for the PC/Laptop to get the correct policy, updates and license information. The University`s license for NOD32 is limited to PCs with a UKZN asset number.

 

To install NOD32 do the following:

 Save any documents that you are working on and close all programs.

 Un-install any other antivirus program/s:

 

1.   Click start, control panel, add/remove programs and select the antivirus program and click change/remove and follow the prompts to uninstall.

2.   Once uninstall is complete restart your PC and follow steps to install NOD32.

 

Installation of NOD32:

 

1.   Go to http://softwarerep.ukzn.ac.za

2.   You will be prompted to authenticate, login using your Novell login and password.

3.   The ICT software repository site will appear.

4.   Click the antivirus folder.

5.   Click `ESET for Howard` (if you are at the Howard College, Medical School or Edgewood Campus), or if you are at Westville and PMB select the relevant ESET link.

6.   Click download, and then save, in the save in dialog box, select desktop, click save to start downloading the ESET NOD32 installation files to your PC.

7.   Once download is complete, click close.

8.   A self-extracting Zip file (Howard.exe or Westville.exe or Pietermaritzburg.exe) will appear on the desktop.

9.   Double click this file, and select unzip, a folder (Howard, Westville or Pietermaritzburg) will be created with the setup files.

10. Double click this folder and double click 32bitinstall.bat.

11. The batch file will run and start the installation of NOD32.

12.  An icon for NOD32 will now appear on the taskbar.

 

Mobile users must contact the ICT Expertdesk to have a customized policy uploaded, so that their computer will continue to receive the latest virus signature updates when connected to a network off campus.

 

 
To ensure that your computer has the latest virus signature updates do the following:

Right click on the green icon (ESET NOD32) on the taskbar.

Click on update, your computer will update.

A message `the installed virus signature database is current` will display.

 
To scan your computer for a virus do the following:

Right click on the green icon (ESET NOD32) on the taskbar.

Click computer scan.

In scan targets; select memory and your local disk drives (c:, d:).

Click scan.
Once scan has finished a report will display if any viruses were detected and disinfected.

 
To scan your memory stick for a virus do the following:

Double click on `My Computer` icon on your desktop.

Right click on the memory stick drive letter.

Click on scan with ESET NOD32 Antivirus.

Once scan has finished a report will display if any viruses were detected and disinfected.
