University-wide communication can only be as good as its IT network and infrastructure. Without data exchange, unified communication or simply the access to the internet and email any modern enterprise is inoperative.

Therefore, no institution can afford vulnerabilities like antiquated network infrastructures, bad load distribution, network outages, media discontinuities in the communication infrastructure.

The Infrastructure Team forms part of the Infrastructure, Networks & Communications (INC) section of ICS. The Infrastructure section together with the System & Services section are the “engine room” for all ICS-supported IT Systems University wide.

The Infrastructure staff comprise of a small group of technical experts which manage all five campuses at UKZN. These technical experts are highly qualified and many are certified with industry certifications in their respected field.

They design, install and maintain network core, distribution and edge devices, Wireless, IP Surveillance, IP Telephony, PABX, Audio visual video conferencing and security systems at UKZN. INC provide second-level and third-level support to all other ICS sections, including Student LAN, User Support & Student Computing.
