User Accounts and Security

Provision of User Accounts

A unique username is allocated to each staff member and gives access to electronic resources, email and internet to UKZN staff.  Staff accounts are automatically created once HR captures personal and job details in the HR system (ITS).

Non-automated processes:

  • Creation and Administration of Guest Accounts (to be utilised by UKZN visitors for authentication to the UKZN network)
  • Creation and Administration of email proxy accounts

It is worthy to note that User Account expirations are not controlled in Active Directory and are taken from ITS as this is the authoritative source and such will need to be constantly updated in order for Active Directory User Accounts to remain Active and Valid for continued use.

Recovery of email accounts and account information (valid only for 60 days after the staff members’ resignation date)
